We are on!
As many of you prepare to travel to the Hawaiian Islands, please note the following steps below in order to avoid any hassle at the airport.
There are TWO ways to be exempted from Hawaii’s mandatory10-day quarantine: either by uploading a vaccination card (the preferred way), OR getting a negative test result from a “Hawaii Trusted Testing and Travel Partner” within 72 hours of traveling.
For an overview of how this process works, you can watch a short video here:
While the process can be a bit confusing, we have broken it down into the following 6 STEPS.
—— —— —— ——
STEP 1: If you are vaccinated (and at least 14 days have passed since your vaccination was completed), you can easily bypass the quarantine process. To do this, go to the Hawaii Safe Travel Website here (https://travel.hawaii.gov). Signup and create a user account. Each traveling adult must create their own account. If you are traveling with minors, they can be added under the account of their accompanying adult.
STEP 2: On the same Hawaii Safe Travel Website, sign into your account and enter your trip details (click the icon of an airplane titled “Trips”).
STEP 3: After completing your trip details, you must apply for an exemption from quarantine. To do this, go back to the landing page and click the icon of a hand holding a smartphone that says “Apply for Exemption/Exception from Quarantine”.
STEP 4: You will next see a list of icons, one of which is titled “COVID Vaccine Exemption” and has the image of a vaccination card. Click it, and upload a picture of your vaccination card.
OR
STEP 4: If you do NOT have a vaccination card, but have a negative NAAT or PCR test within 72 hours of traveling administered from a “Hawaii Trusted Testing and Travel Partner*” you can click the icon of the test tube titled “COVID NAAT/PCR Test Exemption” and upload your document. Please note that your test result MUST BE from an approved partner. For a list of approved testing labs, visit here: (https://hawaiicovid19.com/travel-partners/)
THEN
STEP 5: Next, you have to fill out a Health Questionnaire. This questionnaire will only be made available within 24 hrs of your flight. To fill this out, go to the main page of the Hawaii Safe Travel Website (https://travel.hawaii.gov) and login to your account. Click the icon of a suitcase titled “Health Questionnaire”.
STEP 6: Only when the above Health Questionnaire has been completed, you will be emailed a QR Code. We highly recommend that you take a screen shot of this code (this is done by pressing the power + volume up button at the same time on most smartphones). If it’s easier to print this out at home, that’s fine too. Just be sure to have this QR code handy when you check in to your flight. Once the check-in agent (or sometimes the boarding agent, depending on airline and airport) scans your QR code, you will be given a colored wrist band, which will allow you to get through the Honolulu airport easily (and other airports, for those guests exploring other islands). Once you have this wrist band, you do not need to wait in any lines when you arrive in Hawaii.
We HIGHLY recommend that everyone bring original or paper copies of their heath documents (vaccination card or negative test results). It’s always a good idea to have those handy just in case there’s any confusion.
